ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a pedagogical approach to teaching editing through narrative ways of knowing and through imagination as agency in a community of practice. This theoretical framework juxtaposes pedagogical approaches from the craft and dynamic-content approaches to information design, arguing for a revised perspective of craft. This new craft philosophy empowers students to develop economies of practice, or strategies that emphasize the collaborative nature of editing in content management systems. This pedagogy fosters reflection through imagination, thus helping students to develop professional identity and agency anchored in participation in their community of practice, thus helping them to move from thinking of themselves as solitary editors to content managers within a content management system.
