ABSTRACT

The field of business communication has a long and interesting history. But that history has been told largely from a pedagogical approach. A critical approach to our history, then, involves a better understanding of what this chapter argues is an uncomfortable reality. That reality is based on how the discipline originated as different workplace genres developed. As a result, this chapter will provide examples of how a critical approach to business communication history will help the field become more relevant and relatable as new genres arise in the workplace.
