ABSTRACT

This chapter provides basic knowledge of the production, characterization, and applications of nanoengineered membranes in biotechnological sectors. First, it describes the nanoscale methodologies for membrane synthesis and the functionalization techniques that can be applied to engineering existing membranes. Afterward, it discusses the analytical techniques that can be used to characterize the nanoengineered membranes and, finally, presents many examples of their applications in different biotechnological fields.
