ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the manufacturing of encapsulating materials (nano-and micro-matrices, emulsions, and capsules) by membrane technology. It highlights the parameters (architecture and physical structure, particle size, particle size distribution, surface properties) controlling the encapsulating material properties (cell uptake, drug release, encapsulated efficiency, drug loading, stability). The application of membrane technology in the production of particulate materials for drug delivery and biocatalysis will also be discussed.
