ABSTRACT

Moses Maimonides’ (1138–1204 ce) Mishneh Torah represents a radical restructuring of Jewish law from the Babylonian and Palestinian Talmuds into a clear and systematic Hebrew formulation which, according to the “Great Eagle” (as he was known), would make it possible for those challenged by the difficulty of Talmud study none the less to learn and practice Jewish law. In the section of the Mishneh Torah known as Laws of Agents and Partners, Maimonides presents a typology of commercial relationships.
