ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the second part of this book. The second part of the book demonstrates what each element actually looks like in a classroom, and which will equip the authors' students with the language and the knowledge needed to enter into the conspiracy between them and the writer. It addresses a different age group and a different aspect of English. The chapter looks at how, through a detailed interrogation of the way film sequences are constructed, learners can begin to explore how editing techniques affect meaning and how seemingly complex narrative structures can be seen in terms of key moments. It investigates and explores narrative devices through analysing film and fiction, and also looks at the specific techniques that writers use to get us to cross the first threshold and engage with their story.
