ABSTRACT

When women move from prison, which as a total institution controls nearly every aspect of one’s life, back into society, they receive minimal planning assistance, few resources, and limited or outdated information (Middlemass, 2017). Despite numerous studies that demonstrate that prisons are not rehabilitating prisoners and offer, at least on paper, a reentry plan, we wanted to explore reentry from the perspective of current prisoners. In this chapter, we share the accounts of women, who are currently incarcerated in a state prison in a northeastern state, and their thoughts about reentry.
