ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses an individual’s experiences utilizing several reentry service providers in New Jersey upon release. The overall thought of reentry programs is their intent is in the right place, but often times, their impact lacks. In the case of reentry, the author points out several reasons including: funding, resources, and training availability. Furthermore, the author discusses the various obstacles of reentry such as the imposed fines, mandatory counseling sessions, and various restrictions to programs being offered. Finally, this chapter argues that there needs to be more educational and employment opportunities that will help secure living wages in order to give individuals returning to society better options and ability to provide for themselves and others when released.
