ABSTRACT

This chapter describes in detail the various nail disorders associated with congenital and hereditary diseases. These nail abnormalities can be present as the only manifestation of a disease, but more commonly they occur as a part of various syndromes in association with other anomalies. Nail findings in the syndromes with only nail involvement, with nail and cutaneous involvement, and those with nail and systemic involvement have been discussed. These nail changes can often provide the earliest definite and consistent clues in identifying a disorder. One should always look for various cutaneous and extra-cutaneous features in a child with nail abnormalities.
