ABSTRACT

Surgery of the nail has become commonly performed surgery in dermatosurgery practice. Nail surgery is different from other cutaneous surgery, as it requires basic understanding of nail anatomy, a different set of instruments and, most importantly, surgical skills to perform nail unit surgery. Nail surgeries require precise techniques to avoid untoward complications. This chapter covers preoperative and post-operative management of a patient undergoing nail surgery, including preoperative workup, sterilization of operative field, hemostasis, post-operative dressing, and analgesia. It also discusses common instruments used in nail surgery.
