ABSTRACT

The primary goal of the Ecesis model was to link together a regional economic model and a regional demographic model and to test how that union performed under various kinds of prodding. Ecesis has addressed most of the possible linkages suggested in the theoretical literature. Population plays an important part in the economic models; most directly in determining labor supply but also in determining output demand, wage rates, employment and some income items. State-to-state migration is directly affected by employment opportunities and competition in each state. In addition, the state economies are linked by an interregional trade model. The system is completely simultaneous; a change In any variable in any state affects the entire ECESIS model. The migration model is the weakest link in Ecesis. Ecesis attempted both to examine several theoretical modelling issues and to be a reliable long-term projections model.
