ABSTRACT

Social entrepreneurship in sport has become a popular way to combine profit and non-profit activities in the pursuit of social goals. Different stakeholders of a sports organization including players, spectators, managers, coaches and athletes influence the way social entrepreneurship is integrated into a sports context. This is due to the various ways social problems can be addressed in sport. The aim of this chapter is to discuss how sport is essentially a social activity and how it incorporates entrepreneurship. To do this the origins and developments of social ventures are discussed in terms of how they have affected the entrepreneurial process in sport.
