ABSTRACT
As they filed into his classroom, Mr. Harrold overheard students discussing the score of a professional football game from the previous evening. When the conversation subsided, one student, Caylee, mentioned a player on the losing team who refused to stand during the national anthem. “Losing is karma for not respecting the American flag,” she proclaimed. A few of her classmates laughed and nodded in agreement. Another student added, “His team probably lost because of the distraction.”
