ABSTRACT

This chapter includes the Life of Sister Margaret from the annals of the Lierre Carmel, the convent chronicle that contains a biographical account of each nun written after her death, generally, it seems, by the Prioress at the time. A later index to the annals indicates that this Life of Margaret of Jesus was indeed written by Sister Ursula, who became Prioress after the death of her sister. The account can be dated to around September 1680, since it mentions the death of Edmund Bedingfield, which occurred then: his own Life directly follows this one in the annals, a most unusual inclusion of a male subject.
