ABSTRACT
The papers drawn on and included in this book were written between c.1648 and c.1701 in the English Carmelite convents at Lierre and at Antwerp in the Spanish Netherlands. The manuscripts were transported by the nuns when they fled to England in 1794 as French Revolutionary forces advanced on their convents; the Lierre religious eventually resettled in Darlington, County Durham, and the Antwerp nuns in Lanherne, Cornwall.
