ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the motives determinant via everyday practices and examples that occurred at the joint venture. It considers in detail experiences at the Moose joint venture, it is appropriate to review events that were ongoing there at the time. The Russians could not be trusted was a view that came up time and time again amongst western staff at Moose. In fact, westerners hardly needed any prompting on the subject of perceived dubious business practices among the Russian partners. Much was said by the western side of the venture about perceived negative motives of Russian colleagues. While the Russians' motives were questioned and mistrusted by the westerners in terms of business ethics, from the Russian side, it was more in relation to functional competence that the honest intentions of the western side came to be called into question.
