ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how teachers can ensure that their teaching is in accordance with equal opportunities in all its dimensions and how they can address the issues of ethnic diversity in their classrooms and educate all children in such a way that it encourages and promotes an inter-cultural understanding as well as teaches them to recognise and challenge bullying, harassment and racist practices. The development of anti-racist education as a response to the ideology of cultural pluralism and equal opportunities also entails a consideration of a 'black perspective' as an essential component. Curriculum is the sum of all learning experiences provided for the children in a school. A whole curriculum is much more than maths plus reading plus science plus art.
