ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the role of central training institutes in India by reviewing their techniques and their ability to anticipate future training trends. It presents the results of a survey conducted on trainees and trainers at the Lai Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA). The main purposes of training are to prepare new recruits for service in the public sector and to bring about improvements in the performance of employees. One of the essential elements for the success of training is coordination between training institutes and government departments. It is important for the training provided to be job specific. Reliable and specific informational feedback would help the Academy to improve the design, organization and implementation of present and future training programmes. Training needs analysis and evaluation helps in the understanding, planning and implementation of programs that are relevant and practical.
