ABSTRACT

Whilst the author remained in the Church of England, his principles and his practice, the author's profession and his conduct, his preaching and his acting, were inconsistent with each other. He was contending for the power, whilst the Church of England was maintaining the form. He was contending for regeneration as a supernatural act wrought upon the souls of the elect alone by the Eternal Spirit, and the Church of England was thanking God for regenerating every child that was sprinkled with a little water. One was, that the author desired to be useful to the children of God in a dark neighbourhood, with whom he had been connected for nearly seven years, and of whom some professed to derive profit from his ministry. In conclusion, it may be said that there is nothing which really differences the Methodist community from the Church of England, except the assumption of the sacerdotal office and sacerdotal functions by its ministers.
