ABSTRACT

Freedom of the will is closely connected with objectivity. If philosophers succeed in defending objectivity, not only will they show that their can know the world, but also that philosophers know this fact as well. Objectivity is a cognitive achievement. Knowledge versus opinion is an essential distinction for understanding the importance of objectivity. In political philosophy too the great divide is between objectivists and subjectivists, those who think that there truly is a best political order and those who think that there are only opinions on this matter. Objectivity is one of the highest and noblest aims of philosophy. Objectivity is better than subjectivity, because truth is better than opinion, light better than darkness, life better than death. The correspondence theory of truth holds that a statement is true if it corresponds to the facts of reality. The correspondence theory of truth is associated with realism.
