ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses significant improvements in the quality of mine inspections and Analysis Dampak Lingkungan reviews might result from development of mine reclamation curricula at regional universities based on the subjects of training courses. Development of Ministry institutional capability to identify and solve potential environmental problems from mining activities before they degrade the human environment is a major objective of this project. Because institutional and human resource development were major goals of the technical assistance project, it was deemed essential that Indonesian personnel who would implement any recommended changes acquire a sense of ownership of the recommendations. Technical training activities were designed to develop the permanent training capability of the Ministry of Mines and Energy as well as the level of subject-matter expertise of Ministry personnel. Use of the Technical Information Processing System briefly increased the capacity of the Ministry to evaluate environmental assessments and monitoring plans, reclamation plans, and monitoring of mining operations.
