ABSTRACT

The United Nations Water Supply and Sanitation Decade was developed to accelerate growth in both areas. Urban area municipalities are the sole government caretakers of liquid waste management. The liquid waste management program is given a low priority. The Addis Ababa municipality spends only 5 percent of its revenue on the city's solid waste management. Liquid waste degrades the environment as it washes into streams and pollutes water resources. Liquid waste comprises a major public health hazard in urban areas, especially in high-density neighborhoods with few sanitation facilities and frequent overflowing septic or pit latrines. Waste disposal means the depositing, dumping, injecting, or placing of any kind of waste or hazardous waste into or onto the land. Urban areas produce large volumes of solid waste. The quantity of solid waste generation generally depends on the size of population and the level of urban household incomes.
