A plllllll¢d comparison was carried out to test the prediction that compatible irrelevant parts will faci!ioo perforraance relative ro Incompatible parts and that this effilet will be gmtter for tbe upright rnees than for the inverted faces. The corresponding weights for the upright and invuted tllces with compatible and ineompatible irrelevant parts were set at .67, -.67, $3, and -.33. respectively, yi<:>ldillg a value of 1'(1, 23) = 35.10, p < .0001.
