ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents a range of Human Factors (HF) methods that can be used in system design and evaluation. HF Integration is concerned with providing a balanced development of both the technical and human aspects of equipment procurement. HF and Ergonomics methods are useful in the scientist-practitioner model, because of the structure, and potential for repeatability that they offer. Before the HF techniques were subjected to further analysis, a screening process was employed in order to remove any techniques that were not suitable for review with respect to their use in the design and evaluation of systems. The Event Analysis of Systemic Teamwork methodology is a framework for analysing command and control activity that arises from the methods matrix.
