ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges to established practice in training and development that learning technologies present. One common pattern for the development of Corporate Universities (CUs) has been a progression through phases or waves, triggered by new technological possibilities. The first phase is inspired by the prospects and possibilities of e-learning but in practice is actually concerned with achieving technological mastery. The part addresses the some issues through an examination of the potent notion of blended learning. It describes networked learning communities for school leadership that are conceptualized and executed independently of any technological infrastructure. The part also provides experience of blended organizational learning – where a virtual university has provided central coordination and infrastructure for a wide range of business improvement initiatives.
