ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the benefits that accrue when a company exploits the full potential of e-learning solutions not only to train its own workforce, but also its partners and customers – and then takes those solutions into the community to address the needs of the business environment. The chapter discusses the key challenges associated with cultural adaptation, accreditation, and public-private partnerships (PPPs). It looks ahead to the scope for initiatives that can combine business and social returns. E-learning is offered to partners and customers through the Cisco Learning Connection (CLC), a learning environment that provides anytime access to training on Cisco product and technology information. Perhaps the most innovative aspect of Cisco's activities in this area relates to addressing skills shortages in the industry more broadly. Cisco offers e-learning to educational institutions and non-government organizations (NGOs) through its corporate philanthropy programme.
