ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses African traditions and culture in the face of globalization processes. African culture is defined broadly to include all aspects that have to do with group survival and continuity. In order to fully understand the role and consequences of globalization it is critical that people understand the meaning and significance of the human factor (HF). The HF puts people at the centre of everything and is critical to Africa's development in this day of increasing global connectedness. African renaissance fits in very well with the debate of globalization as hybridization. African renaissance is not a total rejection of globalization per se but renaissance discards the notion of globalization as homogenous but accepts the enriching influence of African culture to globalization debates. The chapter examines the consequences of globalization in Africa and made suggestions as to what could be done to salvage the negative state of affairs in Africa in the context of a globalizing world.
