ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the issues raised by women who have made a proactive choice to be at home with their children by revealing the reasons women feel that a mother should be at home with their children. It explores the thoughts that women, who have chosen to stay at home, have on childcare and why they are not happy to use it. The chapter also looks at those women who may not necessarily be at home through choice, for although they may want to go out to work, they are not able to get a job which fits in with their domestic responsibilities. It discusses the different attitudes which women have towards money, given that they are not directly contributing to the family income themselves. The chapter also explores the women who could be perceived to cross boundaries between women at home and women at work.
