ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the broader Swedish polity actors from a fusion perspective. It also focuses on those wider political actors who have an influence on national European Union (EU) policy, such as the mainstream political parties, key interest groups and corporate actors. In accordance with political fusion and in common with other member states, neither the country's policy-makers nor the public share any kind of defining political vision of European integration. Federo-scepticism does not assume that all forms of further integration are unacceptable. It is tangible since it is focused on the political, and often constitutional, goals that the Union should adopt in the future. The mainstream political parties have adopted a fairly comprehensive set of policy statements regarding what they want to see Sweden get out of the Union. The party leaderships have become more adept at managing party divisions when they do exist.
