ABSTRACT

The information and communication technology (ICT) revolution is transforming both developed and emerging economies, providing a significant boost to growth. While this effect is clear for ICT specialized countries, it is not obvious through which channels ICT investment might favor growth in the other economies. The question becomes even more murky if we focus specifically on small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in ‘old economy’ sectors. This is certainly the situation we face by looking at Italian SMEs.
