ABSTRACT

The three dimensional churchmanship measure has revealed noticeable differences between the clergy as they assess their priorities in ministry. Changes in those priorities occurred both during ordination training and during the early years in ministry as they were under the supervision of a training incumbent. After their pre-ordination theological training the respondents in this study moved as all newly-ordained stipendiary Anglican clergy do into a training parish to continue their training in a setting which the Church of England calls 'ministry under supervision'. Archdeacons continue to be the diocesan officer who is perceived as being the least likely to provide a high level of support. There are differences between churchmanship groups in their assessment of the support they receive. In particular there are significant differences concerned with the issue of the perception of the place of the local community in giving support.
