ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines some practical aspects of that very important role for those who wish to venture outside of their traditional legal information role. Certainly for information professionals who move into the realms of people management it can be a rewarding and exciting challenge. The chapter focuses on the very important aspect of the strategy of any organization – to achieve success the management of staff should be a high priority on the boardroom agenda. Managing legal information staff is the responsibility of information staff, hopefully with the support of the human resource department within the organization. It is very important that the people within any department that is supporting the core function of an organization is in alignment with the overall headcount plan. The core human resource management process can be seen as a three-stage process: organizational entry, organizational performance management, and organizational exit.
