ABSTRACT

The countries of the Americas are moving quickly towards trade liberalization, building a new regime founded upon the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), within the broader context of a series of Americas Summits. This process could be described as an Americas integration process, which relates to building stronger InterAmerican cooperation for four interrelated goals: to preserve and strengthen the community of democracies of the Americas; to promote prosperity through economic integration and free trade; to eradicate poverty and discrimination in the Hemisphere; and fourth, to guarantee sustainable development and conserve the natural environment for future generations.3
