ABSTRACT
In December 1997, the Church of England Liturgical Commission invited all parishes which had been designated under Canon B5A for the experimental use of draft liturgical texts to comment on the six draft Eucharistic prayers which had already been presented in an earlier draft form to the General Synod. There are three reasons why Common Worship Eucharistic Prayers Survey (CWEPS) has limited validity, compared with the questionnaire and interviews. First, the parishes participating in the survey cannot be regarded as a representative sample. Secondly, the enquiry was drawn up with different objectives from those of the questionnaire and interviews. Thirdly, at the time of the survey, Eucharistic Prayers G and H had not been written. In March 1999, the liturgical adviser of a Church of England diocese co-ordinated a request to the Liturgical Commission for 'the compilation and authorisation of a series of simple, contemporary collects' as an alternative to the collects proposed for Common Worship and published in 1997.
