ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at an extremely important part of people management. The personal appraisal review is an essential tool for staff development, training and career progression. Appraisals or performance development reviews have been part of most organization's procedures for a number of years. The chapter focuses on how we can use the performance appraisal review and the personal development plan to enhance older workers' skills and motivation and bring genuine rewards to the business. It explores performance appraisal and touch on training and career planning. The performance appraisal review process plays a crucial role in an individual's development and training plans. Good performance management results in an engaged and motivated workforce who stays in post. It is essential that the performance development review be used to improve the working life of the individuals, their teams/departments and to enhance the business.
