ABSTRACT

This chapter realizes that the ageing process does not necessarily have to lead to incapacity or illness. Preventive action can really make a difference. Beliefs and urban myths abound around dotty aunts or aged great grandparents but the reality is that many old people are perfectly fit and healthy. There is some evidence that absence rates are higher in older workers than in younger workers. The concept of memory deteriorating with age on Lifelong Learning and it is important to help our workforce to be aware that continuous use and practice will usually help to keep both their minds and bodies shipshape. Stress can lead to tiredness and exhaustion, which slows productivity. Behaviours change and stressed employees have a tendency towards impatience and intolerance. When people become overwhelmed by tasks and thoughts they no longer manage their time effectively.
