ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the measures we can take to ensure that our training practices are age-inclusive, and also enables our older workers to feel confident of their ability to enjoy lifelong learning. It demonstrates that the use of colour, imagery and stories can enhance the ability of an older person to retain their memory. Learning new skills and information sparks new brain activity and neural pathways and it can be rejuvenating. Combined with their experience and the wisdom they gain over a lifetime of work these people can become, in one employer's terms 'the jewel in the crown'. The chapter provides some specific actions and skills that we can offer our older workers in order to help them to feel confident in their ability to continue to participate in lifelong learning. In order to help people to learn effectively it can be useful to help them to identify their own specific learning style and strengths.
