ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how to work effectively in intergenerational teams. This is increasingly going to be part of the work environment. It draws on a number of issues raised in stereotypes, demography and work–life balance. Creativity and innovation will be greatly enhanced through the diverse experiences and perspectives existing within intergenerational teams. A useful and non-emotional way of looking at intergenerational issues in a team is to set up a group activity where we can observe the group and give feedback on the way the team works. Many organizations will be dealing with customers who are in different generations. This will affect both the ways the customer is communicated with and the products that the customer will want. This needs to be addressed if organizations are to maintain a competitive edge. Much of the work that has been done on intergenerational working has been in the community in both educational and health projects.
