ABSTRACT

Self-knowledge is key to success. A person needs to understand what makes them tick, and how their own behaviour impacts other people. The Herrmann model can also help us to look at and understand different people's motivators. The Herrmann Thinking Preference model is a metaphoric model of how the brain operates. It is based on neuroscience and physiology. The Herrmann model is a practical tool that most people find easy to understand and can be enlightening to any manager trying to understand a member of staff. In the older workforce people are more likely to have been brought up not to show emotion or ask for help, particularly from younger people. Within the workforce there are many occasions when managers are considerably younger than some of their team and this may inhibit an older person expressing their troubles, feeling that a young person would expect them to have their problems and emotions in order by this stage of their life.
