ABSTRACT

This chapter will consider how best to optimise the performance programme to ensure delivery of the best possible performance in judo competition, and explains why the athlete and their performance should be at the centre of the decision-making process when designing a performance programme. Building on fundamental goal setting principles, a wide variety of interventions will be provided, considering potential benefits to the athlete as well useful methods of monitoring and assessment to establish to usefulness for each athlete. The key interventions considered in this chapter are athlete profiling, goal setting, maximising training outcomes and monitoring.
