ABSTRACT
This excursus analyses the structure and themes of Charles Wesley’s hymn ‘The Resignation’. This is a hymn of longing and desire and charts the soul’s journey towards entire resignation to God. The framework for the hymn is the state of the believer’s heart and the centrality of Jesus’ resignation for Charles. This single hymn comprehensively presents the major themes of Charles Wesley’s resignation hymns.
