ABSTRACT

This chapter builds on the last and looks at ways of therapeutically and deliberately not only avoiding replicating the problem in the room, but also enhancing the session process for each client and crafting corrective emotional experiences. We start by looking at the clinician’s agenda, mapping out in advance goals for a session that can lead the client further down their treatment path. We then discuss and describe specific techniques for enhancing the experience itself—the deliberate use of voice and gestures, ways of changing the emotional climate, crafting effective educational speeches and applying powerful experiential techniques. In the second half of the chapter, we bring the outer world of the client together with the inner world of the therapy session and look at how these specific tools and techniques can be utilized for each of our four stuckpoints.
