ABSTRACT

This chapter offers treatment maps for each of the stuckpoints outlined in the last chapter so that clinicians are able to hit the ground running and offer a preliminary treatment plan by the end of the first session. Each map includes both behavioral and process goals for each stuckpoint, along with specific techniques unique to each issue. In the second half of the chapter, we look at the structure of the all-important first session: Building rapport, assessing, changing the emotional climate, presenting a preliminary treatment plan, handling objections and describing next steps, all while deliberately changing the emotional climate and watching the clock.
