ABSTRACT

Because one of the goals of this book is to help clinicians become more sensitive to the unfolding and crafting of the session process, regardless of their primary clinical orientation, this chapter discusses ways of incorporating these concepts, tools and techniques into one’s clinical style. We break this down into four primary challenges: Assessments, managing session process, creating effective first sessions and the crafting of sessions for specific clients. With each challenge, we describe ways of integrating the concepts and techniques that have been described into one’s own orientation and style. The chapter concludes with specific ways supervisors can help supervisees learn to be more sensitive to clinical process in their work.
