ABSTRACT
The field of application for this chapter is agriculture. Specifically, Thompson describes his work with agricultural scientists and farm groups in three key domains: biotechnology, animal welfare, and sustainable agriculture. In each instance, philosophical presumptions about the larger cultural significance of agriculture intersect with values that specify risk, well-being, and the meaning of sustainable practice.
