ABSTRACT

Exploring a case study of philosophical work led by a community-based, feminist anti-violence organization, this chapter proposes “grassroots philosophy” as a model for engaged field philosophical praxis rooted in community organizing. Grassroots philosophy unsettles and reconceptualizes structuring norms that create exclusivity within professional philosophy by challenging how these norms narrow the field of philosophical practitioners and limit the possibility of philosophical impact. The discussion also maps future pathways for new partnerships and practices that can help sustain philosophy at the grassroots, in academia, and beyond.
