ABSTRACT

This narrative chapter describes a sustained collaboration between a philosopher of science and a nanochemist. The collaboration has lasted more than five years and has taken many forms, from the nanochemist serving on the philosopher’s dissertation committee to the philosopher teaching the nanochemist’s research group philosophy of science, as well as co-authorship in philosophical and scientific venues. As this essay documents the variety of forms that the collaboration has taken over the years, and speaks to failures of collaboration as well as successes, it discusses lessons learned and offers advice to philosophers seeking or engaging in scientific collaborations.
