ABSTRACT
Fourth conjugation verbs are distinguished by the fact that they form their past tense not by adding an ending, but by changing the stem vowel (as in the English ‘swim, swam’). There is sometimes a further vowel change in the supine form (as in the English ‘swum’), which usually ends in –it.
