ABSTRACT

Main clause sentences are often classed according to the position of the finite verb (FV, the verb showing the tense – present or past). In what are called FV1 clauses, the finite verb comes first in the sentence, and in FV2 clauses it comes second after some other word or words:

FV1  Talar du svenska? Do you speak Swedish?

FV2 Du talar svenska. You speak Swedish.
