ABSTRACT

In Swedish, adjectives agree with the noun both attributively (before the noun) and predicatively (after the verb). The neuter singular adds a –t to the basic form, and the plurals of both genders add an –a (see Unit 16 for the definite forms).

en hög trappa ett högt tak höga trappor/höga tak

a high staircase  a high ceiling  high staircases/ceilings

varm mat fint väder röda stugor

hot food fine weather red cottages

Trappan är hög. Taket är högt. Stugorna är röda.

The staircase is high. The ceiling is high.  The cottages are red.
